Study Visit of Engineering Informatics Students to the Drinking Water Treatment Plant of KRU “Gjakova”
24 December 2025, Gjakova
As part of the academic and practical activities of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, students of the Engineering Informatics program at the “Fehmi Agani” University in Gjakova carried out a study visit to the drinking water treatment plant of KRU “Gjakova,” with the aim of gaining first-hand insight into the practical application of information technology and engineering systems in the water supply sector.
This visit was organized as a result of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the “Fehmi Agani” University in Gjakova and the Regional Water Supply Company “Gjakova” J.S.C., which aims to strengthen inter-institutional cooperation, develop students’ practical skills, and link university education with industry and public services.
During the visit, the students were welcomed by representatives of KRU “Gjakova” and were initially informed about safety regulations, the role and function of the plant, its technical capacities, and the overall flow of the drinking water treatment process. Special attention was given to technological systems and process automation, including the stages of water treatment, the use of industrial sensors, PLCs, SCADA systems, and real-time control and monitoring systems for water quality parameters.
Additionally, students had the opportunity to become familiar with the architecture of the plant’s information systems, data collection, storage, and analysis processes, as well as concrete examples of integrating information technology into the plant’s daily operations. The visit also included a practical on-site demonstration and concluded with a discussion and Q&A session, where students were able to connect theoretical knowledge with practical solutions applied in industry.
The Rector of UFAGJ, Prof. Ass. Dr. Drilon Bunjaku, who is also the program coordinator, thanked Chief Executive Mr. Hasan Krasniqi and the entire staff of KRU “Gjakova” for organizing the visit, providing transportation, and for their warm hospitality. The “Fehmi Agani” University in Gjakova highly values its cooperation with KRU “Gjakova” and remains committed to developing such activities that directly contribute to improving the quality of teaching, advancing students’ practical competencies, and preparing them for the labor market through a sustainable linkage between education, technology, and the public sector.
