The Rectors' Conference holds its closing meeting for 2025 at UFAGJ
December 23, 2025, Gjakova
At the University “Fehmi Agani” in Gjakova (UFAGJ), the closing meeting for the year 2025 of the Conference of Rectors of Public Universities of Kosovo was held today, marking an important moment of institutional coordination and strategic planning in public higher education.
The meeting was chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mentor Alishani, Rector of the University “Ukshin Hoti” in Prizren, who currently serves as Chair of the Conference of Rectors. The discussions were characterized by a spirit of institutional cooperation and a shared commitment to strengthening university governance, ensuring quality, and promoting the sustainable development of the university system in the Republic of Kosovo.
During the meeting, strategically important issues were discussed in depth, with particular focus on institutional re-accreditation processes at universities that went through this phase during 2025. The need for harmonizing approaches, exchanging best practices, and maintaining continuous coordination among public universities and relevant institutions was emphasized, with the aim of guaranteeing academic standards and strengthening trust in university governance.
Special attention was also given to increasing the scientific and research component in public universities, as well as to enhancing institutional capacities to successfully manage accreditation and quality assurance processes. In this context, the importance of inter-university cooperation was reaffirmed as a prerequisite for the long-term development of public higher education.
A specific topic of discussion was the issue of University Management Systems (UMS). Rectors emphasized that the current model offered to public universities entails high financial costs and is not fully aligned with real academic and administrative needs. The necessity was highlighted for UMS solutions to be developed and gradually adapted within the universities themselves, reflecting the specificities, capacities, and financial sustainability of each institution.
The meeting was attended by leaders and representatives of public higher education institutions in Kosovo, including: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mentor Alishani – University “Ukshin Hoti” Prizren; Prof. Dr. Armand Krasniqi – University “Haxhi Zeka” Peja; Assist. Prof. Dr. Drilon Bunjaku – University “Fehmi Agani” in Gjakova; Prof. Dr. Agron Bajraktari – University of Applied Sciences in Ferizaj; and Prof. Dr. Mihone Kerolli Mustafa – International Public Business College – Mitrovica. The University of Prishtina was represented by Prof. Dr. Avni Hajdari, Vice-Rector for Scientific Research, Projects, and Innovation.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the work dynamics of the Conference of Rectors for the upcoming period were agreed upon, and plans were made for the next meeting, focusing on addressing shared challenges and harmonizing academic processes at the national level.
