Training is being held by "Fehmi Agani" University in Gjakova in cooperation with the NGO Medika Kosova

On October 20, 2025, in collaboration with the University “Fehmi Agani” in Gjakova, NGO Medika Kosova, with the support of the Kosovo Rehabilitation Centre for Torture Victims (KRCT) – Prishtina, organized a training titled “Trauma-Informed Approach in Working with Survivors of Sexual Violence during the Liberation War in Kosovo.”

The training aimed to educate and raise awareness among university students about the importance of understanding the past and applying professional, trauma-informed practices when working with survivors of sexual violence. Through this initiative, young generations were encouraged to develop empathy, sensitivity, and respect toward the lived experiences of survivors and to recognize the profound impact that trauma leaves on individuals and communities.

Through interactive discussions, practical examples, and guided reflections, participants explored how trauma affects human behavior, communication, and healing. Special attention was given to the ethical dimension of media reporting and the importance of communicating with care to avoid re-traumatization or stigma.

The training provided a valuable opportunity for students to reflect on their role in preserving collective memory and promoting dignity and respect toward those affected by war-related sexual violence.

In closing, the training emphasized the importance of collaboration between academic institutions, civil society organizations, and young professionals in continuing to promote trauma-informed approaches as a cornerstone of ethical communication, healing, and social awareness in post-conflict Kosovo.
